How can we help?

AI Credits

Every AI feature in Embellish — chat, commands, and copilot suggestions — uses credits. Credits are how Embellish manages the cost of AI generation while giving you the flexibility to use the features however works best for you.

How credits work

Each plan comes with a monthly allocation of AI credits:

  • Spark — 100 credits/month

  • Flow — 300 credits/month

  • Craft — 700 credits/month

Credits are shared across your entire organization. Everyone on your team — regardless of their role — draws from the same pool.

What uses credits

All three AI features consume credits, but at different rates:

  • AI Chat — Uses credits based on the length of the conversation. Longer messages and longer conversations use more credits. A short back-and-forth costs less than asking the AI to generate a full email from scratch.

  • AI Commands — Uses credits for each generation, edit, or comment request. Quick edits on small selections use fewer credits than generating multiple paragraphs.

  • AI Copilot — Uses a small number of credits per suggestion. Since suggestions are short (typically a sentence or less), individual copilot costs are low — but they add up if you write for extended periods.

Checking your balance

You can see your remaining credits in Settings → Billing. The billing page shows:

  • How many credits you've used this period

  • How many credits remain

  • When credits reset

When credits run out

If your organization uses all available credits for the billing period:

  • A banner appears at the top of the AI Chat letting you know credits are exhausted

  • The chat input is disabled with the message "AI credits exhausted"

  • AI Commands and Copilot suggestions will stop working

  • A modal provides details on your usage and when credits reset

Your content isn't affected. You can still write, edit, format, export, and do everything else in Embellish — the AI features are the only thing that pauses until credits refresh.

When credits reset

Credits reset at the start of each billing period — typically monthly, aligned with your subscription date. Unused credits don't carry over to the next period.

Getting more credits

If you consistently run out of credits before your billing period ends, you have a few options:

  • Upgrade your plan — Higher-tier plans come with more credits. Moving from Spark (100) to Flow (300) triples your allocation.

  • Purchase additional credits — Contact your organization admin to explore purchasing extra credits through the billing settings.

  • Wait for the reset — If you're close to the end of your billing period, you may just want to wait for the natural refresh.

Tips for managing credits wisely

  • Write first, then use AI. Drafting even a rough version yourself and then asking the AI to refine it uses fewer credits than asking the AI to generate everything from scratch.

  • Be specific in your prompts. Vague requests often require follow-up messages to get what you want. One specific, detailed prompt produces better results in fewer exchanges.

  • Use the Copilot for small things, Chat for big things. The Copilot is great for finishing sentences and transitions. Save the Chat for full drafts and strategic conversations where the credit cost is worth it.

  • Set context intentionally. Including relevant content in your context settings helps the AI produce better output on the first try — which means fewer back-and-forth messages and fewer credits spent.

  • Check the billing page periodically. Especially if you have a team, it's worth keeping an eye on credit usage so you're not surprised near the end of the month.
